My Professional Philosophy as it applies to teaching
I believe in the use of all forms of media for the conveyance
of an idea. I believe that all teaching forms if implemented by an
understanding, knowledgeable and dedicated instructor can yield outstanding
results for a student. I believe that self motivated students make the best
learners. I believe that students who find a personal interest in the material
being presented stand the greatest chance of learning and retaining the
information. Although I do believe a community environment promotes knowledge
sharing I think that knowledge is gained through personal experience and much
less likely through a 2nd person adventure such as is the case with purely
group activities.
I enjoy teaching immensely and only hope that I continue to have the
opportunity to do so. As an instructor I believe I have an obligation to be
relevant, accessible and helpful to students in any area of study. I teach in a
very business oriented, reality driven way. That is to say that example labs
and exercises are based on real world examples and situations that I have been
involved in during my professional career.
How do I think I accomplish these goals? I teach hands on
using web, discussion, videos and tutorials. What do I expect from a student?
Have relevant interests. Be concerned about the materials you are learning.
